March 2014

2014 marks the beginning of a new CME/CPD triennium cycle

The Quality Assurance Programme of our College is open to all registered doctors in Hong Kong. All fellows and members of the HKCFP (except student & affiliate members) are automatically registered with the programme at the beginning of each year. Accreditation will be recorded throughout the years in the form of "credit points". At the end of the three-year cycle, a Certificate of Quality Assurance will be awarded to those who have satisfied the requirements.

The requirements for the award of the QA Certificate are 90 credit points within the three-year cycle, combining the credit points from both the CPD and CME activities. Of the 90 credit points, at least 30 credit points must be obtained from CPD activities. A maximum of 45 credit points within the three-year cycle can be counted for each type of educational activities. Participants must participate in a minimum of 3 different types of activities.

Please safe keep your QA certificate, as it is an important document. An administrative fee as determined by the College Council would be charged for any application for replacement. The charge in year 2014 is HK$500 per year.

For those preparing for their Conjoint FHKCFP/FRACGP Examination in the coming few years, please also note the present annual requirements as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of our College for election to Fellowship to avoid future disappointment.

To apply for fellowship of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM) in Family Medicine, other addition criteria laid down by HKAM need to be fulfilled.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) now requires one CPR activity in a Quality Improvement and Continuing Professional Development (QI&CPD) triennium. Also, applicants for reciprocal QA arrangement with RACGP should be aware of this requirement.
