Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Diploma in Family Medicine (HKCFP) 2026-2027

Q1. What is the Diploma in Family Medicine?
The Diploma in Family Medicine is a postgraduate qualification organized by the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians (HKCFP). It aims to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of medical practitioners in the field of Family Medicine and Primary Care.

Q2. Who is eligible to apply for this diploma?
Applicants should be current registered medical practitioners with Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine or hold equivalent qualifications.

Q3. When will DFM 2026 - 2027 be completed?
It is expected to be completed in April 2027.

Q4. How is the class schedule for DFM?
Some of the modules are distant learning. The other class schedule was usually at 2:30pm to 5:30pm on Saturdays. A few classes are scheduled on Sundays.

Q5. Where are the DFM classes held?
Most of the classes are required physical attendance at a venue in Wan Chai. Only a few classes are conducted via ZOOM or held at a different location.

Q6. Are there any attendance requirements for DFM?
Minimum attendance requirement for each Module is around 75 - 80%. If a module has 8 classes, candidates must attend at least 6 of them.

Q7. What is the format of the examinations?
There are written and clinical examinations. Candidates must pass the written exam in order to qualify for the clinical examination.

Q8. What is the passing rate for DFM?
The passing rate for DFM is over 90% every year.

Q9. Who is eligible to apply for the training subsidy for DFM?
Upon successful completion of the DFM, participants enrolled in Primary Care Directory (PCD), with PCD enlistment completed by the final class of the DFM, are eligible to apply to Primary Healthcare Commission for the training subsidy. PCD Doctors joined the Primary Healthcare Co-care Network (Chronic Disease Co-Care (CDCC) Scheme doctors) can apply for a reimbursement of 50% of course fee or maximum HK$23,000, while other PCD doctors (i.e. those who have not joined the Network) may apply for reimbursement of 25% of course fee or maximum HK$11,500.
